Am Mórrígan

Is miann leam dol as do dheaghaidh
Ag itealaich ‘nam leisg gu spòrsail
Àrd an craobhan an fhiodha chruaidh
Mar is nàdurra dhut
Far an téid thu air do spàrr
‘Nad chronrìocht** a-measg a’ chòrr dhe na fithich

Ach thog thu do nead
Fada mus do nochd mise

Is ged a théid mi an tòir ort,
Tha mi ‘tuiteam chon na talmhainn a-nist
Le cion àite-fuirich
Coltach ris an duilleach
Mar bu dual
As deaghaidh soirbheis mhath as t-fhoghar;

Ach mar a tha thu ‘nad chronríocht,
Bruidhnidh mi riut fhathast,
Ann an cruthan,
‘fiù ‘s gun fhiosta dhut fhéin;

The Mórrígan*

I desire to go after you
Flying lazily, sportingly
High in the hard wood trees
As is natural for you
Where you perch
A shapeshifter amongst the rest of the ravens

But you constructed your nest
Long before I appeared

And though I pursue you
Lacking a dwelling place
I now fall to the ground
Like the foliage
As is customary
After a good autumn wind;

But as you are a shapeshifter,
I speak to you still,
in shapes,
unbeknownst even to you;
